HERE IS WHY I’M NEVER BUYING NIVEA Q10 ANTI-AGE & ANTI-PIGMENT SUNSCREEN AGAIN: Review, SPF50 + UVA

Before I start reviewing this product, not that there are two different names for this product on the market; you can find Anti-age Q10 sunscreen and Anti-age+Anti-pigment sunscreen. Both have the same ingredients, I checked. Not sure why they have two names, but without further ado let’s start with the claims.

CLAIMS

Nivea claims that this sunscreen is moisturizing and anti-aging, it prevents and fights the appearance of sun-induced fine lines and wrinkles. So it’s not claiming to reduce wrinkles, it’s just preventing them. This is a trustworthy claim, it’s not promising things that it cannot do and I love that.

Anyways, it provides you with high UVB protection SPF 50, and its UVA protection is 1/3 of the claimed UVB protection since it is a broad spectrum. It’s meant for normal to dry skin.

INGREDIENTS

UV filters: Homosalate, Avobenzone, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, Ensulizole, Uvinul A Plus (this is a new generation, chemical sunscreen agent that’s designed for high UVA protection and high photostability). Again, this sunscreen has decent UV filters and I love that it has Uvinul A Plus, because you know how much I emphasize the importance of UVA protection in a sunscreen. UVB protection is never a problem, we have enough UVB filters but we don’t have as many UVA filters that are photo stable. So this is great, and I wish Nivea included this UVA filter in their Antipigment sunscreen, you can watch that review down below.

Ingredients listed as actives here are Licorice Extract, Q10 co-enzyme, and Glycerine. Glycerin is a humectant/moisturizer and is great for dry skin types. Licorice Extract has skin-lightening properties and the Q10 co-enzyme is an antioxidant.

CONTROVERSIAL INGREDIENTS

Alcohol and Fragrance. Alcohol is not controversial for me; it’s a penetration enhancer and a solvent. It creates cosmetically elegant lightweight formulas. If you ask me, this is a good ingredient. But as you know I am always mentioning it here because I know that some people are sensitive to alcohol.

Fragrance on the other hand is controversial if you have sensitive skin, it might irritate you, so keep that in mind.

DEMO APPLICATION AND HOW IT FEELS ON THE SKIN

It has a lightweight texture, but it’s very moisturizing, spreads out easily, and leaves no white cast. This is 2 in 1, moisturizer and sunscreen and will be great for dry skin types. My skin feels very soft and well moisturized right after application, it gives me a more intense glow than the Anti-pigment sunscreen by Nivea does. I did a review on that one last week. LAYERING

It layers well, with no peeling or balling up. The second layer gives you an even more intense glow, so this is the part where you might need a little setting powder in certain areas, but it’s still not greasy, sticky, and heavy on the face, just very well moisturized.

BIGGEST CON

For some reason, this makes my nose watery and my eyes sting, and that is even when I don’t put it around my eyes, that’s just when I apply it to my face. Because of this I literally made my husband test me for covid-19 because I thought I was getting sick but no, it’s this sunscreen. Something in this is causing allergy or some sort of irritation. I don’t have sensitive skin btw and this is the first time that I am experiencing something like this. So I can only say that if you have sensitive skin, skip this sunscreen. I didn’t do a makeup application test because of this; I just removed it immediately after filming. I cannot use this sunscreen.

FINAL VERDICT

Even though I love sensor characteristics and I love that this sunscreen has Uvinul A Plus, the new generation UVA filter, I cannot use it because of the strange irritation that it is causing me.

I want to recommend it, but then again I can’t.

What can I say, if you have sensitive skin, skip this sunscreen right away.

If not, you can give it a try; I cannot say that everyone will have the same irritations as I did. But then again if you do decide to get it, there is a risk that it will irritate you the way it did irritate me.

If you don’t want to risk, I can recommend you Anti-Dryness sunscreen by Garnier. It’s in the same price range, SPF 50 + UVA, and it protects against long UVA rays. That one as well has amazing sensor characteristics and it is still to this day, one of my favorite sunscreens by Garnier.
