HERE IS WHY YOU NEED TO BUY NIVEA SHINE CONTROL MATTIFYING SPF 50 + UVA SUNSCREEN: Drugstore, Rreview
Hi guys! I am continuing the Nivea sunscreen reviews as I promised and when I do separate reviews for all of them, expect THE TRUTH ABOUT NIVEA SUNSCREENS video on my youtube channel. As always let’s start with the claims.
CLAIMS
Nivea claims that this sunscreen is fast-absorbing, light, non-greasy non-sticky, and has an eye-friendly formula. It’s made for normal to combination skin types. It offers SPF 50 and UVA protection as well, its broad spectrum which means that UVA protection is 1/3 of the claimed UVB protection.
INGREDIENTS
UV filters: Homosalate, Avobenzone, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, Ensulizole, Uvinul A Plus (this is a new generation, chemical sunscreen agent that’s designed for high UVA protection and high photostability).
This sunscreen has decent UV filters and I love that it has a new generation UVA filter, because you know how much I emphasize the importance of UVA protection in a sunscreen. UVB protection is never a problem, we have enough UVB filters but we don’t have as many UVA filters that are photo stable.
It also has Licorice Extract, which has skin-lightening properties but since this sunscreen does not claim to lighten the skin I will assume that the concentration is not high enough to provide you with this effect.
The last ingredient worth mentioning is Tapioca Starch which has oil-absorbing properties. Whenever I see this ingredient I know that the sunscreen will really be mattifying.
CONTROVERSIAL INGREDIENTS
Alcohol and Fragrance. Alcohol is not controversial for me; it’s a penetration enhancer and a solvent. It creates cosmetically elegant lightweight formulas. If you ask me, this is a good ingredient. But as you know I am always mentioning it here because I know that some people are sensitive to alcohol.
Fragrance on the other hand is controversial if you have sensitive skin, it might irritate you, so keep that in mind. Luckily for me, I didn’t react to this sunscreen as I did to Q10 Anti-Age sunscreen also by Nivea.
DEMO APPLICATION AND HOW IT FEELS ON THE SKIN
At first, I thought that this one does not differ much with sensor characteristics from the Nivea Sun Q10 sunscreen that is meant for dry/normal skin. It has a lightweight texture, but it’s very moisturizing, spreads out easily, and leaves no white cast. My skin feels very soft and well moisturized right after application. At first, it gives you a subtle glow, but after a while, the sunscreen absorbs and becomes more mattified. This tells me, that this sunscreen will be good for people who have oily skin. Overall I do love the texture and sensor characteristics of this sunscreen and how I t feels on the skin. Watch the Demo Application in the video below.
LAYERING
I had no problems with layering; it’s not peeling nor balling up. At first, the second layer gives you more glow, but then after a while, it becomes mattified again. So this sunscreen is definitely mattifying. It has a semi-matt finish even after a second layer.
MAKEUP APPLICATION
I had no problems with makeup application; the makeup looks flawless on top of it. This sunscreen can be a great base for makeup as well.
FINAL VERDICT
I love the sensor characteristics of this sunscreen! Nivea did an amazing job with this one. It spreads out easily, it is lightweight, it gives a semi-matte finish, and it’s not sticky, nor greasy. I love it and I can easily recommend this sunscreen to oily skin types. It’s truly amazing.
I did have one dilemma regarding this sunscreen that I have to mention here and that is that once I apply it for the first couple of hours I feel as if it is slightly irritating my eyes, and I didn’t apply it around my eye area even though Nivea says it’s safe.
It’s not making my eyes watery, nor is it that irritating that I have to remove it right away like I did Nivea Q10 sunscreen. If you watched that review then you know, if you haven’t watched it you can check it out below this paragraph. For the Q10 Sunscreen, I didn’t even do the makeup application test.
This one is not like that, but then again I feel something strange for the first couple of hours, I can feel that I have something on my skin. I cannot call it irritation, it’s not like that but I can feel something. After those couple of hours, that feeling goes away and I have no problems with it throughout the day.
I am mentioning all of this because I want to emphasize that you should be careful with it if you have sensitive skin, if not, go for it. I have a friend who uses this sunscreen and has absolutely no problems with it, and she loves it.
So there you have it, except for that strange feeling around my eyes for the first couple of hours after application, I absolutely love this sunscreen. And I recommend it to everyone except to people who have sensitive skin.
Let me know if you have tried this sunscreen and what is your experience with it.
And that would be it for today’s blog post, thank you for reading!
